An explosion rocked a residential area in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, northern China, killing at least one person and injuring 21 others, according to state media.
The blast occurred at around 1:17 p.m. local time, and authorities are currently investigating its cause.
Two people remain missing. Footage on social media shows vehicles engulfed in flames and thick smoke emerging from residential windows. More than 200 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
This incident comes just one day after a deadly restaurant fire in Liaoning province claimed 22 lives. Both accidents highlight a growing number of such incidents across China in recent years.
