President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met ahead of Pope Francis' funeral at the Vatican, according to sources.
The two leaders agreed to hold further talks after the service. They joined a gathering of world figures, including Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron, at St Peter's Square, where Zelenskyy received applause.
The meeting comes as Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, held talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, discussing the resumption of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine—talks that have been frozen since early 2022.
Trump recently said on Truth Social that a peace deal was “very close” and urged Zelenskyy to “get it done.”
Further updates are expected.
