At least 16 people, including women and children, lost their lives and over 30 others were injured when a passenger vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ravine in Pakistan’s Sindh province, local authorities said.
A devastating road accident in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province claimed at least 16 lives and injured more than 30 others, after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the hilly terrain of Jamshoro district, police and rescue officials reported on Friday.
The bus was reportedly carrying seasonal workers returning from wheat harvesting in Balochistan. Deputy Commissioner Ghazanfar Qadri confirmed that the accident occurred when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, with early investigations pointing to over-speeding as a likely cause.
Twelve victims died at the scene, while four more succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Jamshoro. Among the dead were four children and multiple women, officials said.
Rescue teams rushed to the site and transported the injured to nearby medical facilities. Several critically injured passengers were transferred to hospitals in Hyderabad for specialized care, with authorities warning that the death toll could rise.
Deadly road accidents are a frequent occurrence on Pakistan’s rural and mountainous highways, where over-speeding, aging vehicles, poor road conditions, and lax enforcement of traffic regulations contribute to a high rate of casualties.
