The Israeli army has dismissed a unit commander after a probe into the killing of 15 emergency workers in Gaza found multiple operational failures.
The Israeli military says a review into last month’s killing of emergency responders in Gaza uncovered “several professional failures,” and that a commander will be dismissed over the incident.
Fifteen paramedics and other rescue workers were killed on March 23 in three separate shootings at the same location near the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
An internal investigation by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) found multiple failings, including an “operational misunderstanding” and a “breach of orders.”
The deputy commander of the unit involved has been dismissed for providing an incomplete and inaccurate account during the debrief. Another commanding officer will be formally reprimanded for his overall responsibility in the incident.
