A mob attack on an Ahmadi place of worship in Karachi has left one man dead, highlighting ongoing persecution of the minority group.

At least one man has been killed after a mob attacked a place of worship belonging to Pakistan’s Ahmadi minority in Karachi.

According to community spokesperson Amir Mahmood, a group of 100 to 200 people beat a 47-year-old car workshop owner to death using bricks and sticks.

The mob was later dispersed, and police rescued 15 people who had been trapped inside the building.

Ahmadis, considered heretical by some orthodox Muslims, face routine violence and discrimination in Pakistan. The law prohibits them from identifying as Muslims or using Islamic symbols, and they are barred from voting in general elections.
