Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has met UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi amid efforts to strengthen regional ties.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has met with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
This marks al-Sharaa’s second diplomatic visit to the Gulf since taking office in January, after his Islamist rebel group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), ousted the Assad regime in December.
The visit comes as Syria looks to reassure international partners of its commitment to establishing an inclusive political system.
Last week, Syria and South Korea formally established diplomatic relations and agreed to open embassies in each other’s countries. Syria had been the only UN member state without diplomatic ties to South Korea.
