Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is in stable condition and will not require surgery, according to doctors, after he was hospitalized in northeast Brazil with abdominal pain.
Bolsonaro had been speaking at a political rally in Santa Cruz, a small city in the northern state of Rio Grande do Norte, when he began feeling unwell. He was then airlifted to a hospital in the state capital, Natal.

Bolsonaro, a hard-right former army captain who led Brazil from 2019 to 2022, has been traveling across the country campaigning for Congress to approve an amnesty bill for his supporters who stormed the capital, Brasília, after his 2022 election defeat.
Last month, Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that Bolsonaro will stand trial for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government following his electoral loss.
