He added that countries like Japan and South Korea are actively seeking agreements with the U.S., with officials from these nations traveling to Washington to negotiate.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt further explained that nearly 70 countries have reached out to the Trump administration for negotiations following the announcement of a new 10% minimum tariff on all imports, along with higher reciprocal tariffs targeting the U.S.'s largest trading partners, including China and the European Union.
Leavitt confirmed that Trump met with his trade team earlier on Tuesday, directing them to pursue specific trade deals with each country seeking negotiations. When asked about the possibility of delaying the tariffs, Leavitt stated that Trump has made it clear that he does not plan to extend or delay the implementation of the new tariffs, which are expected to go into effect as scheduled.
