U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announces immediate cancellation of U.S. visas for South Sudanese passport holders, citing Juba’s failure to accept repatriated citizens.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced the immediate revocation of existing visas for South Sudanese passport holders, along with the suspension of new visa issuances.

Rubio attributed the decision to the South Sudanese transitional government's repeated failure to swiftly accept repatriated citizens. He criticized officials in Juba for "taking advantage" of the United States, although he emphasized Washington's willingness to reconsider if South Sudan shows full cooperation.

This measure is part of U.S. President Donald Trump's broader immigration policy, which has included stronger enforcement and repatriation of individuals deemed to be in the U.S. illegally.

The Trump administration previously warned countries reluctant to repatriate their citizens promptly that they would face consequences, including visa restrictions or tariffs.
