Lithuania said on Monday (March 31) rescuers have recovered the armored vehicle of four missing U.S. soldiers that last week sunk in a peat bog in a military training area in the Baltic country, not mentioning the soldiers.

The defense ministry said Lithuanian military police and U.S. investigators are still at work at the site.

The soldiers in the M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle were on an exercise at the Pabrade training ground near the Belarus border where U.S. units have been rotating since 2019.

Their vehicle was located on Wednesday (March 26) at more than 5 metres (16.4 feet) below the surface of the bog and hundreds of Lithuanian and U.S. military personnel with dozens of vehicles have been working at the site and surveying nearby woodland.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the Lithuanian Military Police and U.S. officials continuing their efforts to gather more information.
