U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked the security clearances of former President Joe Biden, his former Democratic election rivals Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, and several other former officials and critics.
Trump stated that it is no longer in the national interest for these individuals to have access to classified information. He directed department and agency leaders to revoke their unescorted access to secure U.S. government facilities.
The revocations also include former Secretary of State Antony Blinken and members of the Biden family. Losing security clearance may limit the materials these individuals can review and restrict their access to certain government buildings or secure facilities.
Former U.S. presidents and top security officials typically retain their clearances as a courtesy. For many of those named, the impact of losing access to classified information and secure areas will be largely symbolic.
