North Korea has vowed to upgrade and expand its nuclear arsenal, condemning G7 foreign ministers for urging it to abandon its weapons programme. Pyongyang accused the group of infringing on its sovereignty, according to state media reports on Monday.
North Korea declared it would continue strengthening its nuclear forces in response to demands from G7 foreign ministers to abandon its weapons programme. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Pyongyang condemned the G7's position, calling it an infringement on its sovereign rights.
The statement comes after G7 foreign ministers, in a joint communique, reaffirmed their demand for North Korea to cease its nuclear and ballistic missile development. Pyongyang rejected the call, stating that its weapons programme is essential for its security and will continue to expand.
North Korea has faced multiple rounds of international sanctions over its missile and nuclear activities. Despite diplomatic pressure, Pyongyang has consistently refused to roll back its arsenal.
