British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday welcomed Ukraine’s agreement to a 30-day ceasefire proposal and said it was now Russia’s turn to end the fighting.
Starmer congratulated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump for what he called a “remarkable breakthrough” in efforts to halt the war.
"As both American and Ukrainian delegations have said, the ball is now in Russia’s court," he said in a statement.
The ceasefire, initially set for 30 days, was proposed by the US and accepted by Ukraine. It remains subject to Russia’s approval and implementation.
Starmer said he would push the ceasefire talks forward at an upcoming meeting of world leaders convened by Britain.
