South Korea’s acting President Choi Sang-mok said Monday the government will seek consultations with the U.S. on shipbuilding and energy cooperation, as economic ties remain a priority.
Choi also addressed U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff plan, instructing officials to actively engage with Washington on tariff rates and explore potential non-tariff measures to safeguard South Korea’s interests.
Seoul has been closely monitoring Trump’s protectionist trade policies, which could affect key industries, including steel and semiconductors. Officials are expected to initiate discussions with U.S. counterparts in the coming weeks.
