At least 42,000 liters of oil products have spilled into the Katwickhaven Canal near the container port in Hamburg, according to TASS. The fire service reported that the spill originated from a tank located at the Green Port company's facility. Green Port specializes in waste management, including the collection, transportation, storage, and processing of liquid residues from oil distillation.
The cause of the spill remains unclear, and over 90,000 cubic meters of water have already been contaminated. Emergency services are working to contain the spread using floating oil booms. A permanently installed water-air barrier is in place to prevent contaminated water from entering the Elbe's main channel, while a police helicopter with specialized cameras is assisting in monitoring the situation.
