Sections of an elevated highway under construction collapsed on Tuesday in Cheonan, South Korea.
At least four construction workers were killed and six others injured when a highway overpass collapsed Tuesday morning in South Korea, an official told CNN. Among the victims, two were Chinese nationals.
Five of the injured sustained serious wounds in the accident, which occurred in Cheonan, south of Seoul, according to an official from the Ansan fire department.
Dashcam footage aired by broadcaster YTN captured the dramatic moment the towering deck of the overpass suddenly gave way, crashing onto the road below. The highway was still under construction, and no passenger vehicles were present at the site.
Acting Interior and Safety Minister Koh Ki-dong ordered emergency responders, including fire and police departments, to “mobilize all available equipment and personnel for rescue efforts while ensuring the safety of firefighters,” according to a ministry press release.
