President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, met with U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, on Tuesday (February 18) at the Commission’s headquarters in Brussels.
The meeting followed an emergency summit in Paris on Monday (February 17), where around ten European leaders convened to discuss U.S. initiatives on Ukraine and potential diplomatic efforts to end its three-year conflict with neighboring Russia.
The diplomatic developments come after U.S. President Donald Trump surprised European allies and Ukraine last week by announcing that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and planned to launch a peace process.
Meanwhile, senior U.S. and Russian officials are also holding talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (February 18), ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Putin.
