The 88-year-old pontiff was hospitalized on Friday with bronchitis and has been under medical observation since. According to a Vatican statement, his condition is stable, although he is experiencing a mild fever.
Following medical evaluations, doctors diagnosed a respiratory tract infection and began administering medication. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni reported that Pope Francis is “calm and in good spirits” and even spent some time reading newspapers during his hospital stay.
As he recovers, Pope Francis is expected to miss several upcoming public events.
