At least 20 people were injured in a fire at a Carnival costume factory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday. The blaze broke out at the facility in the Ramos neighborhood, where workers had to be rescued through windows as flames engulfed the building. Local health authorities confirmed the injuries and reported that several individuals were trapped as the fire spread.
Ten victims are in serious condition, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns to their airways, according to the state hospital. Five other hospitals are also treating additional injuries.
The factory produced costumes for at least three samba schools participating in the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, scheduled from February 28 to March 3.
