A Russian overnight attack on energy infrastructure in Ukraine's eastern Dnipropetrovsk region left more than 600,000 people without electricity on Sunday, 8 November, Ukrainian energy company DTEK said.
The company reported damage to critical energy facilities, as Russia continued targeting Ukraine's electricity infrastructure. DTEK also warned on X that power supplies could change several times an hour as repair crews worked to restore damaged equipment.
Separately, Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces had struck a power substation in Ukraine's Zhytomyr region and a container ship south-west of the Black Sea port city of Odesa, claiming both targets supported Ukrainian military operations.
DTEK said the overnight attack damaged one of its energy facilities in the Kyiv region, as well as substations operated by Ukraine's national grid operator, Ukrenergo.
The company said the affected substations transmit electricity from nuclear power plants to Kyiv, the surrounding region and central Ukraine.
In a post on X, DTEK warned that electricity supplies could fluctuate throughout the day as repairs continued.
“Some facilities have already been restored, but much remains to be repaired,” the company said.
It added that emergency power cuts were in place in the Kyiv region, while scheduled outages were being implemented across most other regions.
Russia claims strikes on additional targets
Russia's Defence Ministry said on Sunday that its forces had hit a power substation in the Zhytomyr region, claiming the facility supplied electricity to Ukraine's defence industry.
The ministry also said Russian forces had struck a container ship allegedly transporting weapons and military equipment to Ukraine south-west of Odesa.
The reported attacks affected separate locations, including energy infrastructure in eastern and central Ukraine, as the country continued efforts to repair damage to its electricity network.
