Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv early on Saturday, 7 November, injuring two people and damaging residential buildings, just three days before U.S.-led peace talks with Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the capital's suburbs as missiles targeted infrastructure. Falling debris struck a five-storey apartment building in a western district and damaged the facade of another residential building.
The city's military administration also reported damage to a building housing a kindergarten. The attack followed a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia was preparing further strikes on energy facilities, bridges and civilian infrastructure.
“Explosions in the Kyiv suburbs. The enemy is hitting infrastructure with ballistic missiles,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram.
A Reuters witness reported powerful explosions in the capital as the attack unfolded.
Authorities continued to warn residents of potential further strikes hours after the initial explosions.
The reported damage affected residential and educational buildings, although officials had not provided a comprehensive assessment of the destruction.
In his nightly video address on Friday, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian intelligence had identified preparations for another wave of Russian strikes.

His warning highlighted the threat to Ukraine's energy network and transport connections, particularly bridges spanning the Dnipro River.
Ukrainian officials had not confirmed whether Saturday's attack was connected to the specific preparations described by Zelenskyy.
