The first US flight carrying migrants to Guantanamo Bay arrived Tuesday evening, as part of the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. The 10 people on the flight were suspected gang members.
The first United States military aircraft carrying detained migrants to Guantanamo Bay has landed in Cuba.
This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump's administration prepares to potentially house tens of thousands of migrants at the naval base in the country, which for decades was primarily used to detain foreigners associated with the Sept. 11 attacks.
Trump says he wants the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security to expand a migrant detention facility at the base to hold more than 30,000 migrants.
Military flights are a costly way to transport migrants. Reports suggest that a military deportation flight to Guatemala last week likely cost at least over $4,600 per migrant.
Officials say this first flight to Guantanamo Bay carried up to 10 immigrants.
