China urges Cambodia, Thailand to restore peace at border
China has called on Cambodia and Thailand to step up efforts to bring about the swift restoration of peace along their shared border, according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry released on Friday.
The statement summarised the outcome of a trilateral meeting held a day earlier, in which the three sides reviewed recent developments and discussed ways to reduce tensions.
Beijing reiterated its support for the two Southeast Asian countries in maintaining the consensus they have recently reached, stressing the importance of building on that understanding to secure a stable and lasting ceasefire. It said such a step would not only ease current frictions but also contribute to broader regional stability.
The talks took place on Thursday between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Cambodian and Thai counterparts, during which the parties exchanged views on the situation at the border and reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue as the primary means of resolving disputes.
