Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that a recent Russian delegation visited Damascus and agreed to continue discussions on various topics. The main focus was securing Russia’s control over its naval base in Tartous and its air base near Latakia.
While Moscow has long supported President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict against Syrian rebels, it is now working to maintain strong relations with the new leadership.
