Russian missile attack kills 14 in Kyiv as buildings damaged across the capital

Russian strikes around Ukraine's capital of Kyiv killed 14 people, injured 27 and damaged warehouses overnight, emergency service officials said on the Telegram messaging app.

Explosions echoed across the city shortly after midnight as waves of ballistic missiles targeted several districts. Air raid alerts remained in place for more than an hour while Ukrainian air defences responded.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a warehouse near the city centre was destroyed and rescuers had pulled two people from the rubble.

"There may still be people under the rubble," he said. "Search and rescue operations are proceeding."

An ambulance driver was among those injured, according to the mayor.

The attack also sparked fires in warehouses and storage facilities. On the outskirts of the city, a large blaze broke out after debris from a missile landed near a residential building.

The city's military administration said emergency services were also dealing with an ammonia leak caused by the strikes.

Russia steps up attacks on Kyiv

Ukrainian officials said seven locations across Kyiv were hit during the assault on the city of around three million people.

Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital in recent weeks, with Kyiv facing repeated overnight strikes over the past month.

The latest attack comes as Moscow continues its long-range campaign against Ukrainian cities, while Kyiv relies on air defence systems to intercept incoming missiles and limit civilian casualties.
