Türkiye is advancing in its bid to acquire 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets to modernise its air force. NATO's Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has issued a tender for spare parts covering 250 items for the Typhoon. NSPA is leading the multinational acquisition process.
Discussions between Turkey and the Eurofighter consortium, including the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, are progressing well, though talks with Germany are slower. Defence industry observers are cautious, recalling the complexities of the F-35 negotiations.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently confirmed that technical talks on the potential sale are underway. This acquisition would significantly enhance Turkey’s air defence capabilities. A Eurofighter Typhoon from the UK’s Royal Air Force recently landed at Murted Air Base in Ankara, underlining the importance of ongoing talks with Germany and other consortium members.
