One soldier was killed and four others were injured after a UH-1Y Venom military helicopter crashed at the Czech Army's 22nd Air Base in Náměšť nad Oslavou, around 180 kilometres southeast of Prague, the Armed Forces said.
The crash happened on Thursday (23 July) with five soldiers on board. Television footage from the scene showed fire engines and what appeared to be the overturned helicopter inside the airbase.
Emergency services said three soldiers with moderate injuries were taken to hospital in Brno, while another with minor injuries was transported to a hospital in Jihlava.
Rescue officials also said three additional people were treated and taken to hospital in Třebíč after inhaling smoke.
The Czech military said its immediate priority was providing medical, psychological and administrative support to the injured soldiers and their families, while also assisting the family of the soldier who died.
Authorities have withheld the victim's identity out of respect for the bereaved.
The Army said all circumstances surrounding the crash would be investigated thoroughly and impartially.
Following the accident, the military suspended operations of all H-1 helicopters, including the UH-1Y Venom, until the investigation is complete.
The UH-1Y Venom is a multi-role military helicopter manufactured by Bell Textron and powered by two General Electric T700-GE-401C engines.
Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Miroslav Hlaváč dispatched Air Force Commander Brigadier General Petr Tománek to the crash site shortly after the accident.
The Czech military said it would release further information once investigators had established the cause of the crash.
