North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles from its east coast on Tuesday, January 14, which traveled approximately 250 km (155 miles). The Japanese government confirmed that the missiles did not land in Japan’s territory or its exclusive economic zone, and there were no reports of damage or casualties.
The missiles were launched from Kanggye, Jagang Province, located near the border with China, around 09:30 am local time (0030 GMT), according to South Korea's military. The test occurred just days before the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who has maintained a relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, highlighted by their summits during his first term.
Despite the launch, Japan's chief government spokesperson, Yoshimasa Hayashi, reassured the public, stating that the missiles did not pose a direct threat to Japan’s territory.
