Wildfires surrounding Los Angeles have reached the Hollywood Hills, killing at least five people, destroying homes, and forcing over 100,000 evacuations. Strong winds continue to fuel six blazes across the city, four of which remain uncontained.
The Sunset Fire burned 50 acres near Hollywood Boulevard and its Walk of Fame, prompting evacuations from Hollywood Boulevard to Mulholland Drive and the 101 Freeway to Laurel Canyon. Landmarks like the Dolby Theatre and Griffith Observatory are under potential threat. Fire crews slowed its progress with water drops, but officials warn of further dangers if the fire crosses the 101 Freeway.
Mayor Karen Bass called the situation “the big one,” as stretched firefighting resources and severe conditions hinder containment efforts. Residents are urged to follow evacuation orders.
