At least 14 people were killed and 16–31 others injured when a bus carrying students from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences collided head-on with a passenger van near Quli Faqir, Jhang district, Punjab, on Wednesday.

The students were reportedly travelling to Faisalabad to participate in sports activities when the accident occurred. Authorities said the collision happened while the van was overtaking a tractor-trailer, leading to the head-on crash.

Rescue teams quickly reached the scene, transferring the deceased and injured to nearby hospitals. Local officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar and District Police Officer Bilal Iftikhar Kiani, oversaw rescue operations.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and instructed authorities to provide the best medical treatment for the injured. She also requested regular updates on rescue and treatment efforts.
