Damascus Airport resumes international flights after a decade. Qatar Airways leads with weekly flights as Syria sees a major political shift.
Damascus International Airport will resume international flights on Tuesday, announced Ashad Al-Suleibi, head of Syria's Civil Aviation Authority, via the state news agency SANA.
Efforts to rehabilitate Damascus and Aleppo airports are underway with international support.
This marks the return of air traffic after a decade-long suspension following the civil war's outbreak in 2011. Qatar Airways will lead the revival with three weekly flights to Damascus starting the same day.
The resumption follows a major shift in Syria's political landscape, as anti-regime groups recently seized control of Damascus, ending Bashar Assad's nearly 25-year rule. A new administration, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, is now in power.
