Egyptian authorities announced on Thursday the reopening of beaches in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Marsa Alam.
A shark attack on Sunday led to one tourist's death and injured another, according to the Ministry of Environment. Both victims are foreigners, but their nationalities are not revealed.
A committee completed a report on the incident, prepared by the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries. This report includes recommendations to prevent future shark attacks and to protect beachgoers in the Marsa Alam area. In response, the Red Sea Governorate ordered hotels to hire enough certified lifeguards.
