Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday he had appointed Oksana Markarova, the country’s former ambassador to the United States, as his new adviser on reconstruction and investment, expanding the team responsible for long-term recovery planning.

“Starting today, Oksana Markarova will continue supporting our state as my Advisor on Rebuilding and Investments,” Zelenskiy wrote on X, announcing the appointment.

He said the role was part of a broader push to prepare Ukraine for post-conflict recovery, even as fighting continues.

“Beyond the fundamental goal of defending our independence and the daily work to ensure Ukraine's survival, we have a long-term objective: to give Ukraine the capacity to rebuild after the fighting and restore normal economic development,” Zelenskiy said.

Markarova, who served as ambassador in Washington since 2021, has been a key figure in securing U.S. political and financial support during the war. Her new position is expected to focus on attracting foreign investment and helping shape Ukraine’s reconstruction strategy, which Kyiv and international partners estimate will require hundreds of billions of dollars.
