The Agencia Brasil news agency reported that several vehicles plunged into the river after a portion of the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira Bridge, linking the states of Maranhao and Tocantins, gave way.
Among the vehicles that fell into the river were four trucks, two cars, and two motorcycles. Search operations are ongoing for five individuals still missing.
