U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia on Friday to help reduce border tensions following a recent clash between the two countries.
A White House official said Trump also engaged with Malaysia to support efforts to end the violence, without naming the individuals he spoke to. Cambodia evacuated hundreds of residents from Prey Chan village following the incident, a provincial spokesman said.
The Royal Thai Army denied unprovoked firing by its forces and said Cambodian soldiers had fired into Thai territory. Thai troops reportedly returned fire using only the necessary force in line with rules of engagement to protect personnel and national sovereignty.
