Bolivian President-elect Rodrigo Paz was sworn in as the country's new President on Saturday ending almost 20 years of one-party rule.

The inauguration of Paz which marks the formal beginning of Bolivia's new political cycle, took place at the Plurinational Legislative Assembly in La Paz, Bolivia.

Paz, 58 took the oath of office before lawmakers and foreign leaders including Argentine President Javier Milei, raising his right hand before a Bible and a cross.

“God, country, and family, I do swear,” he said before receiving the presidential sash and medals.

He pledged to uphold and enforce the country's Constitution and domestic laws.

Rodrigo Paz won Bolivia's presidential runoff elections on 19th October, defeating conservative rival Jorge "Tuto" Quiroga amid the country's worst economic crisis in a generation.

A senator from the Christian Democratic Party, Paz won 54.5% of the vote, beating Quiroga's 45.5%, according to early results from Bolivia's electoral tribunal.

The United States also congratulated Rodrigo Paz on his election as Bolivia’s president following the country's elections calling it "a historic moment" for the Bolivian people.
