U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Japan for a three-day official visit, marking his first trip to the country since the start of his second term in January.

During his stay, Trump will meet Emperor Naruhito and hold a bilateral summit with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday — their first face-to-face meeting since Takaichi took office last week.

According to the Japanese government, the visit will serve as a key opportunity to further strengthen the Japan–U.S. alliance and deepen mutual trust between the two leaders amid heightened regional security challenges.

Trump’s stop in Tokyo follows his participation in the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of his three-nation Asian tour.

In a statement, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said it “sincerely welcomes the visit of President Trump,” describing it as “an ideal opportunity to reinforce bilateral cooperation and friendship between Japan and the United States.”
