At least five militants, including two commanders, were killed in northwestern Pakistan after security forces foiled a planned terrorist attack, officials said on Saturday.

Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district said three militants were killed when they attempted to target a police checkpoint with a rickshaw loaded with explosives. The vehicle exploded before reaching its target after troops opened fire.

In a separate intelligence-led operation, two militant commanders were killed in the Mughal Kot area. The military said both were involved in attacks on security forces and extortion for their group.

Pakistan has seen a rise in militant attacks in recent years, with authorities accusing Afghanistan of allowing TTP fighters to use its territory for cross-border attacks—a claim Kabul denies.
