Rescue operations are underway on Mount Everest's eastern Tibetan slope after a powerful blizzard trapped nearly 1,000 trekkers in high-altitude camps.

The snowstorm, which began on Friday evening and continued through Saturday, obstructed access roads at elevations exceeding 4,900 meters, making rescue efforts challenging.

As of Sunday, approximately 350 individuals have been safely evacuated to the nearby town of Qudang. Rescue teams, including Tibet's Blue Sky Rescue team and local villagers, are working tirelessly to clear snow and reach the remaining trekkers. Some hikers have been reported to be suffering from hypothermia, and several tents have collapsed under the heavy snow. Efforts are ongoing to contact and assist the remaining stranded individuals.

The blizzard has disrupted the typically clear conditions expected during the peak trekking season, posing heightened risks for those stranded at high altitudes. Authorities have suspended ticket sales and restricted entry to the Everest Scenic Area in response to the severe weather conditions.
