Moroccan authorities have arrested more than 400 people during violent youth protests demanding reforms in public health and education.
The demonstrations, organised online by a youth group called GenZ 212 using platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Discord, reached a fifth night on Wednesday across cities in Morocco.
Authorities reported that the fourth night had been more violent, with 263 security personnel and 23 civilians injured as protesters torched cars and ransacked shops.
On Tuesday night, young men wielded knives and threw Molotov cocktails and stones, resulting in 409 arrests, according to the Interior Ministry.
Authorities said that administrative buildings, banks, and shops were looted or vandalised in cities including Ait Amira, Inezgane, Agadir, Tiznit, and Oujda.
Despite the violence, GenZ 212 said it rejects attacks and remains committed to peaceful protests, stressing that its grievances are with the government rather than security forces.
