The Philippine Coast Guard said on Wednesday it was sending additional aid to help victims of a powerful magnitude 6.9 quake that killed at least 69 people in the central Philippines.
The coast guard ship departing from Manila was carrying medical doctors, nurses and other personnel equipped for an emergency response, and would be deployed in the affected areas.
"We are prepared and we have the equipment needed for these kinds of emergencies. Our people are equipped with the training and specialities that we will use in these types of situations,." said Kristoffer Jamilarin, Philippine Coast Guard Medical Officer.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has assured survivors of swift assistance, with cabinet secretaries on the ground directing relief operations.
The shallow quake struck late on Tuesday (30 September) off the coast of the island of Cebu, cutting power and damaging buildings. It was not immediately clear how many people were missing.
