On Friday evening, a man in his 50s has died and seven others were treated after a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a takeaway restaurant in Bloxwich, Walsall.
Emergency services responded to a suspected gas leak at a takeaway restaurant located on Cresswell Crescent. The incident occurred around 9:40 PM. Some were taken to the hospital, while others were treated at the scene. Nearby residents and businesses were evacuated as a precautionary measure and were allowed to return after safety tests were conducted early Saturday morning.
Local authorities, including West Midlands Police and the Health and Safety Executive, are investigating the cause of the suspected carbon monoxide leak. Preliminary reports suggest that a generator emitting a dangerous gas mixture may have contributed to the incident.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels.
