1. France officially recognises state of Palestine, Macron announces
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his nation officially recognises the state of Palestine.
"I declare that today, France recognises the state of Palestine," Macron said at an international conference on Palestine in New York ahead of the start of this week’s UN General Assembly.
He said that the recognition represents "the only solution that will allow for Israel to live in peace."
2. World leaders to meet in New York for 80th UN General Assembly
World leaders will gather in New York City on Tuesday for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, an annual summit that comes at a time of heightened tensions and shifting diplomatic tides.
The General Debate of the 80th session of the assembly opens Tuesday and is set to close on 29 September.
Several crises are expected to be on the agenda, including Gaza and Ukraine.
3. Super typhoon hits Philippines as thousands evacuate from their homes
A super typhoon that caused thousands of people to be evacuated from their homes in the Philippines has "slightly" weakened, according to the country's weather bureau.
Super typhoon Ragasa made landfall over Panuitan Island, one of the Babuyan Islands in the Philippines' northern Cagayan province, at 15:00 local time (08:00 GMT) Monday. Ragasa, packing 285km/h (177mph) wind gusts, is expected to barrel west towards southern China.
Despite its small change in intensity, it still brings a "high risk of life-threatening storm surge", with peak heights exceeding 3m (10ft), the Philippine weather bureau said.
4. Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs meet on UNGA sidelines in New York
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting on 22 September on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Building on the results of the peace summit held in Washington on 8 August, the ministers exchanged views on possible next steps to advance the peace agenda.
The ministers agreed to continue their dialogue.
