On Sunday, December 22, thousands gathered in Idlib for a concert organized by Syria Relief, celebrating the return to normalcy in opposition-controlled areas. The event featured Syrian artist Yahya Hawwa, with music, revolutionary anthems, and Syrian flags creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The concert in Idlib followed another event in Aleppo, also organized by Syria Relief, where Hawwa performed for thousands the previous day.
On November 27, 2024, clashes intensified between anti-regime forces and Bashar al-Assad’s loyalists, leading to the opposition gaining control of key provinces. By December 7, opposition forces entered Damascus, and Assad fled the capital on December 8, seeking asylum in Russia.
The Syrian National Army launched the Dawn of Freedom operation, liberating Tel Rifaat and Manbij from PKK/YPG control. A transitional government was formed, with Mohammed al-Bashir appointed interim prime minister. Türkiye reopened its embassy in Damascus on December 14, and several Western nations sent delegations, signaling a shift in Syria’s international relations.
