Spain to summon Israeli envoy to protest over comments on PM Sanchez

Spain’s Foreign Ministry announced it will summon Israel’s charge d’affaires on Tuesday to protest remarks made by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar about Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

Saar had called Sanchez “an antisemite and a liar” on X after the Spanish leader backed large pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Madrid that forced the cancellation of the final stage of the La Vuelta cycling race.

In a statement, the ministry said it would protest “the unacceptable words and positions” of Saar regarding Spain and its prime minister.

This marks the second time in less than a week that Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has summoned the Israeli envoy over similar comments.
