Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, said the country will expand imports from the U.S. to further reduce tariffs on Bangladeshi goods, particularly textiles.

The U.S. recently lowered tariffs on Bangladeshi exports from 35% to 20%, which Yunus called a “key milestone” for bilateral trade. The discussions also covered strategies to reduce the trade imbalance and increase purchases of U.S. agricultural products, including cotton and soybeans.

Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest garment exporter, after China, with the U.S. remaining its top export market, accounting for $8.4 billion in 2024, including $7.34 billion in ready-made garments.
