Polish authorities have detained two Belarusian nationals after a drone was spotted flying over government buildings and the Belweder Palace in Warsaw. The State Protection Service (SOP) neutralised the unmanned aerial vehicle, Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed.

SOP officers observed the drone and took immediate action, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration spokesperson Karolina Gałecka and SOP officials confirmed the operation.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions following repeated Russian drone incursions over Polish airspace on 9-10 September. Polish and allied forces shot down drones that posed a direct threat.

All border crossings with Belarus remain closed as Russian-Belarusian military exercises, "Zapad-2025," continue in the region. Authorities emphasised that there was no direct threat to government facilities.

The investigation into the drone incident is ongoing.
