Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Rome on Thursday to discuss enhancing strategic and economic ties between the two NATO allies.

Fidan highlighted Baykar’s acquisition of Piaggio Aerospace and partnership with Leonardo as a significant regional precedent. He also stressed the need to maintain Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and security, noting ongoing joint efforts with Italy to support stability in the country.

Tajani expressed confidence in Türkiye’s role in promoting peace and facilitating dialogue on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, while noting Israel’s repeated violations of international law.

During his two-day visit, Fidan is also scheduled to address the Istituto Affari Internazionali think tank. The ministers previously met in May during NATO talks in Antalya.

Bilateral trade between Türkiye and Italy reached $32.2 billion in 2024, with Italy as Türkiye’s fifth-largest export market globally. The two countries set a new trade target of $40 billion at the Rome summit.
