Thousands of London Underground staff began a series of strikes on Sunday over pay and working conditions, causing severe disruption across the city’s subway network.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) said drivers, signalers and maintenance workers will walk out at various times through Thursday. Transport for London (TfL) warned that services will be minimal or non-existent during the strike period.

TfL has offered a 3.4% pay rise, but the union demands a shorter working week, from 35 hours to 32 hours. The union cited staff reductions of 2,000 since 2018, leading to “extreme shift patterns.”

No talks are scheduled between the union and management, and the union has called on Mayor Sadiq Khan to intervene.
