Boat capsizes in Pakistan floods, killing at least 5

A rescue tragedy unfolded in southern Punjab on Saturday when a boat evacuating residents overturned in strong river currents, killing at least five people.

The disaster management authority confirmed that most passengers were saved after the accident in Multan district.

Earlier, Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed reported that severe flooding from the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers has devastated more than 4,100 villages, forcing more than 2 million residents from their homes.

Authorities have established 423 relief camps, 512 medical facilities, and 432 veterinary posts, relocating more than 1.5 million animals.

So far this season, at least 50 people have lost their lives in the floodwaters.
